Our last full day at Gulf Shores also marks our first full day of being quarantined due to the Coronavirus. Technically, no one is supposed to be on the beach, but there are a handful of people who have decided that they are simply too important or special to listen to the police, and are frolicking around down there on the soft, powdery sand that I love so much. I’m not mad or anything… clearly.
Although the quarantine ruling has certainly put a damper on our “corona-cation”, I’m trying to look on the bright side. First of all, I know I won’t be bored anytime soon because I’m trapped in a room with my rambunctious family. Secondly, we have a perfect view of the Gulf of Mexico! We’re so close to the water, you can even hear the waves crashing and feel the salty-sea breeze on your face. It definitely beats Missouri, where my view would instead be the pile of dirt where a house is being built next door. And a third thing, vacation is supposed to be relaxing anyway! So join me with a fresh coffee or maybe a martini, plop down in your comfiest chair, and let’s wait out this quarantine together!
To keep myself entertained and give you lovely folks the once-in-a-lifetime perspective of someone who’s being quarantined in Gulf Shores (sarcasm, I swear), I’ll be documenting my last day in Gulf Shores in a kind of bullet list/ lost tapes fashion.
Enjoy!
Update #1: 10:17am
A police jeep just rolled down the beach looking for escapees, so the evil part of my brain that wanted to sneak out to the beach is being squashed by logic.

Update #2: 12:06pm
So I’m watching season 1 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and you know that scene where Titus sings ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry to Kimmy while pretending that he wrote it, and then asks her if she ever feels like a plastic bag? Well not to sound kitchy/cringy, but that’s how I feel right now in quarantine. It’s actually really difficult to wrap my head around this whole corona pandemic. I’m at the beach drinking a mich ultra, feeling like I’m on vacation while people are getting sick and losing jobs left and right. I feel like a useless butthole. A completely unproductive member of society.
Lately, I’ve been worrying that my blog sounds like it’s got an entitled author. It’s been difficult to make it not sound that way, especially because this blog is about sharing my travel adventures, which I have been very lucky to have had. Especially looking back from the present where everything is scary and we can’t go anywhere, I hope I’m at least improving my writing voice so that this page is enjoyable to read.
Update #3: 12:13pm
Enough with the doom and gloom! (lol, I almost published this with ‘gloom’ spelled as ‘gloob’)
My favorite part of the Gulf of Mexico is when two waves crash against each other, because it makes a “clap!” sound and launches salty seafoam everywhere. I call it an ocean high-five.
Update #4: 12:55pm
The coast guard just put up another red flag under the first one, which means that no one is allowed on the beach. We kinda already knew that though. Maybe this will keep away the morons who are still trying to escape quarantine to party on the beach.
Probably not.

Update #5: 3:53pm
I just realized that I don’t know when the next time I’ll have the opportunity to travel will be, so if any of y’all are willing to let me live in your basement, attic, or crawl-space, do not hesitate to let me know.
Update #6: 5:16pm
A police 4-wheeler just rolled across the beach. They really mean business, huh?
Update #7: 7:03pm
Just had pizza for dinner. Crazy, I know.
Since watching the police patrol the beaches has kind of gotten old, and the sun has set, my sisters and I have resorted to watching garbage TV. So far, we’re loving all the drama on Shahs of Sunset, Chrisley Knows Best somehow manages to be both boring and scripted, and Botched takes the title for best garbage TV show ever- it’s HILARIOUS and also kinda sad.

well…betcha didn’t think that that’s how this post about being quarantined in Gulf Shores would end, and yet, here we are.
Tomorrow, we are thankfully allowed to return home to Missouri, where remote learning *shudder* will start.
Seeing as most of the country/world is now under quarantine, we are probably gonna have a lot of time on our hands. For that reason, feel free to message me in the comments if you wanna talk about your quarantine experience, your favorite beach, or even your favorite garbage TV show!
Love you guys,
