Geez, I never know how to start a post. A good place would probably be Hello!
Hello!
As you can see, I’m still working on finishing the Virtual Yellowstone Road Trip Posts. My goal is to have them all done and wrapped up with a neat little bow within the week, but I guess we’ll see if I manage it 😉
While writing that series has been new and fun (I just adore Yellowstone and sharing what I’ve learned there) I also think it’s given me a better idea of the direction I want this blog to go in. I’ve decided that I’m not going to monetize the blog for now (which requires focusing on reads/SEO/whatnot), and although guides do pretty well in that department, writing this VYRT has taught me that the amount of research required makes it less enjoyable to write than a sort of ‘diary-style’.
So with that being said, I’ll probably stick to diary-style posts from now on unless there’s a guide that I really wanna write.
I think that’ll be best since I’ll be able to post more, which is important given that I’ve got 2 very big trips on the horizon!
Now the fun part of this post begins 😀
Firstly, in 1 week I am moving to California to work at a ski lodge!
This is just so exciting to type out. I’ve wanted to do seasonal work again for such a long time, and as fate would have it, a perfect window of time opened up between February and April.
I should preface, I have never been skiing before.
What kind of crazy lady decides to operate a ski lift when she’s never worn a ski in her whole life?
Me, I guess.
But this will be a great opportunity to learn a new skill and spend the winter and spring having boodles of fun!! When my contract ends, I’d love to spend a little time exploring the state and national parks in Southern California, but we’ll see how that works out time-wise (if you have recs, please let me know! I’ll love you forever).
Then, I am planning a trip to Finland, Russia, Belarus, and the Baltics with my sister! Our grandpa was from the Baltics, and so this is a sort of heritage trip for us. It will be so special, and I woke up this morning in total euphoria just thinking about how we’ll be there in 4 short months!
Please pray or manifest that everything works out with the border disputes going on over there right now. I sure am, and also for the safety and security of everyone involved.
Afterwards, I’m not sure! Bonnaroo got moved from September 2021 to late June 2022, and so I’m still anticipating going there for free by volunteering.
Finally, I’ve got some very, VERY big news.
I found out I got into medical school in December- consider it the best Christmas present ever!
So if you’re wondering why I’ve got so much travel planned for the spring and summer, that is why. Starting in the fall, posts will probably stop altogether out of necessity.
Studying and studying and never sleeping again, ya know?
But that won’t be the end of this blog- no way, no how!
While I decided long ago that travel won’t be a central part of my career (I fear it may lose its magic for me that way), travel is always, ALWAYS going to be a part of my life. And writing on this blog has been so good for communication and articulation skills.
If all goes according to plan, this blog will be online for a long, long time, and I’ll start writing and traveling again when I graduate.
Sorry if this bored you out of your mind. I’m not sure anyone reads these, but if you do, you are the best- easy as that. And it is cathartic to write updates like this, makes the world seem much less scary 🙂
Until next time,
WTB
